Sunday School - Winter 2010
The Book of Esther
Through mid-February, children ages 3 – 13 have been learning about Esther, the Old Testament queen whose story fills a whole book in the Bible. Our Jewish brothers and sisters remember this queen who saved her people in the celebration of Purim. Trinity children have been making megillahs, decorated scrolls that tell the whole story of Esther, groggers, noisemakers to drown out the name of the evil Hamen, who persecuted the Jews, and Hamentashen, delicious cookies named after Hamen. They have acted out the story of Esther and played games of chance, which play a key role in the story. Thanks to Heather Ayotte, Amiee Grable, Aline Hauber, Angela Hinson, Linda McShane, and Shannon Shetler, our rotation workshop leaders for this unit of study.
The Whole Story of the Bible
Sunday School Rotation Workshops:
Feb 21 & 28 and March 7 & 21
A recent Quiz Night question from the “Religion” category... “What is another name for the Pentateuch?” In Sunday school, the children will be learning the answer to that question (see the end of this article) and many more facts about The Bible. As usual, we will make learning fun by using 50 minute workshops featuring games, skits, art, film, and cooking. All children ages 3-10 are invited to participate in our rotation workshops. Middle School youth will begin using the Rite 13 curriculum and our high school students continue with J2A, the second phase of the Journey to Adulthood approach used at Trinity. (The Pentateuch, or first five books of the Old Testament, are also known as the Torah.)
