Making All Things New
“Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark…”
John 20:1
When Mary got to the tomb—before the sun had peeked over the horizon—Jesus was already alive. In the pre-dawn, Jesus was up, dressed, and already walking around the garden to inspect the new creation. Mary expected a tomb, but instead found something more like a womb that had just given birth to new life.
My friends, God works in the dark. It can take minutes or years to see how God’s Spirit moves through our lives, but the spirit is always on the move. I firmly believe that Jesus only waited until Sunday to rise because his ancestral law told him to rest on Saturday.
“Don’t be afraid,” said our Lord. Don’t be afraid of the dark, or the disorientation, or whatever grief has taken hold of you. Jesus is already alive and making all things new.
