The Lord is my Shepherd
We often refer to this Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Eastertide, as Good Shepherd Sunday. Some of our most beloved—and simultaneously puzzling—readings fall on this Sunday, Psalm 23 and John 10:1-18, the Good Shepherd Discourse.

Ring out, wild bells!
The new year has arrived, and I have been reflecting on our times. My mood has been somewhat melancholy.

Oh Advent! Rich in Metaphor & Mystery!
So last week I offered my translation of the first three of the O Antiphons, and today I will share my translation of two more. I’ve been a little free, but not too wild in my departure from tradition.

O Advent! You are so full of arcane traditions!
Among the ancient traditions of Advent are the “O” Antiphons. From at least the 8th century Christians have recited one these seven little prayers during each evening worship service (vespers) in the week leading up to Christmas.

Welcome to Stewardship Season!
Please, stop calling it stewardship season! This is a misnomer. The Christian value of stewardship is a year-round endeavor of constantly keeping track of our resources and the gifts we have to share, and then applying a loving heart and a prudent mind to the task of investing those gifts and resources for the good of the community and building up God’s vision for the world.

Forgiveness, Repentance, Reconciliation & Grace
This week we have seen circulating around the internet the footage of Brandt Jean offering his forgiveness to Amber Guyger, the woman who murdered his brother Botham.

The Two Thousand Year-Old Book Club, or Why Bible Study Matters
A lot of people think Episcopalians have no real relationship with Scripture. Because we have historically spent more time with our prayer books than our bibles, there is a misperception that we do not value Scripture or at least the the Bible is subordinate to our prayer books and therefore not central to our faith.

“Remember, I am with you always…”
“Remember,” Jesus says at the end of Matthew’s Gospel – his final words to his disciples – “Remember, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” And that is a promise – a promise to remember always, to hold on to, amidst the changes which are all around us. What doesn’t change is God’s faithfulness.
