This I call to mind, and therefore I have hope:
The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases, his mercies never come to an end;
They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Lamentations 3:21-33
Last Sunday, about eighty Trinity parishioners fully engaged in talking and listening to one another about what we value in our congregation – and what we most appreciate in the ordained ministers we have known. As the meeting drew to a close, we shared our hopes for the future of Trinity Church. It was good to see so many people committed to the process –which is called Appreciative Inquiry.
This might sound crazy, but I drove home with an appreciation of God’s steadfast love as I experience it at Trinity Church. The feeling washed over and around me so that I just couldn’t help it, I had to stop and buy one of my husband’s favorite treats- Utz Barbeque Potato Chips. When I gave him this unexpected afternoon snack, he said, “What did I do to deserve this?”
God’s love and mercy is truly steadfast. God’s faithfulness shows us the ultimate in Staying Power – and we have done nothing to deserve this gift. Sometimes I can’t help it – the occasional flash of realization of God’s deep love makes me aspire to become the best me I can be. It makes me want to reach out to people around me and share God’s love.
I wonder what experience you have had recently that helped you feel God’s Staying Power in your life?
