Empowered to Worship
…but all things should be done decently and in order.
1 Corinthians 14:40
When I wrote about the liturgical year last month, I did not mention how much variability there is in the cycle from Lent through Easter. The Church calculates the date based on when the first full moon after the spring equinox occurs. This affects how long the season after Epiphany lasts and when Lent begins. Next year, we have a leisurely eight weeks after Epiphany. Bliss! This year we got five. Lent has thundered in like an early migration of wildebeest.
Even though Lent has just started, Holy Week is already on its way. Therefore, I encourage you to come to Trinity on Saturday, March 16, from 10am – 1pm for a day to brush our many worship ministries in advance of the NINE services from Palm Sunday through Easter Day. We need faithful acolytes, readers, chalicists, greeters, and livestream operators to ensure that everyone can worship fully and confidently.
The schedule of the Holy Week Orientation is as follows:
10am: Altar Guild and Flower Guild
11am: Acolytes, Chalicists, and Greeters
12pm: Readers, Intercessors, and Tech volunteers
These ministries are an offering of love to our Trinity family whom we see often and those we do not, especially newcomers.
God empowers us to worship by the grace of the Holy Spirit but relies on each of us to fulfill the call. So, listen for the Spirit’s invitation to proclaim the Word of God to the Church, to warmly welcome people into their Father’s House, to share the grace of Christ’s Cup of Salvation, to give rhythm, order, and beauty to our liturgy, or make that liturgy accessible to people who are unable to leave their homes.
Sign up to fulfill one of these roles during Holy Week and plan to join us on Saturday, March 16, from 10am – 1pm for training and/or rehearsal. Attendees will receive a special edition of all the services with detailed “stage directions”. Even if you can’t serve in March, come anyway to discern whether you might not be called to serve at other times.
